Box styles

Choose the structure that suits the food and how your team packs it. We can also combine features or copy a box you already use.

• Rigid lid and base: Thick wrapped board gives a solid, premium box that customers tend to keep.
• Corrugated gift box: Fluted board gives crush strength for stacking, delivery and heavier loads.
• Box with die-cut insert: A die-cut insert holds each item in position so nothing moves in transit.

Materials and board

We match the board to the weight of the food and how far it travels. The main thing to plan for with gourmet gift boxes is heavy glass, uneven weight and knocks during courier delivery.

• Rigid greyboard: Thick board, usually 1.5 to 2.5 mm, wrapped in printed paper. It is used for premium gift boxes that customers keep and reuse long after the food is gone.
• E-flute corrugated board: A thin corrugated board around 1.5 mm thick that adds crush strength and a little insulation while still printing cleanly. It is the standard for pizza boxes, mailers and heavier food orders.
• Kraft paperboard: Unbleached kraft has a natural brown finish that suits rustic, organic and eco-minded brands. It prints best with bold one- or two-colour artwork, because the brown base shifts lighter colours.

Food safety

All gourmet gift boxes are made from food-grade board. Where food touches the box directly, we recommend a barrier coating or liner, and print is kept on the outside. Our guide to food-safe packaging in Australia explains what the Food Standards Code expects from packaging.

Pack perishables last and use inserts so heavy jars can't move onto delicate items.

Printing and finishes

Sustainable options

Kraft and recycled-content board, film-free windows and water-based coatings all help your gourmet gift boxes recycle more easily. We can add the Australasian Recycling Label to your artwork, and certified compostable options are available for some styles.
